How Does a Massage Work?

During your consultation at Zodiac Spa Beauty & Wellness, we will listen to your concerns and goals and review your medical history before we help you choose the best massage therapy to meet your health and treatment objectives. When it's time for your massage, you will be ushered to a private treatment room where you will relax on a comfortable massage table. Your massage therapist will apply light to heavy pressure (depending on the treatment) with their hands over your body to loosen muscles, knots, tendons, and areas of stress. These can include the neck, back, legs, abdomen, lymph nodes, and more. A typical massage can last about 60 – 120 minutes. Some of the massage services we offer include the following:

Deep Tissue Massage: One of our most popular massages, deep tissue massage applies pressure with slow, deep strokes to target muscles and connective tissue and relieve soreness, pain, and muscle tension.

Swedish Massage: This classic massage energizes the body on many different levels and improves overall health with long, relaxing strokes and light pressure, which help increase blood flow and oxygen throughout the body, melt away muscle tension, improve sleep, mobility, flexibility, and much more.

Sports Massage: Related to deep tissue massage, this massage benefits athletes at every level, offering a variety of benefits, including preventing injuries, increasing flexibility, accelerating recovery, improving mood, reducing stress, and flushing lactic acid to relieve soreness.

Prenatal Massage: Pregnancy can be a beautiful time in a woman’s life, but it can also be uncomfortable and overwhelming from the skeletal and circulatory changes occurring in the body. Our trained prenatal massage specialists help relieve backaches, stiff neck, cramps, tension, and swelling, and you'll get a better night's sleep.

Hot Stone Massage: We offer this form of massage therapy, which involves placing heated or cooled stones on the body for pain relief, relaxation, and therapy.

Structural Integration Massage: Massage technique that addresses the "target area" of pain in an attempt to free restrictions or break adhesions. A slow, and deep stroke with pressure is applied to areas that are tight and sore to relieve the restrictions being caused from connective tissue and treat the structural issues causing pain. Ten sessions done weekly or monthly are recommended for best results.

Physical Therapy: Manual physical therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy delivered with the hands as opposed to a device or machine. In manual therapy, practitioners use their hands to put pressure on muscle tissue and manipulate joints in an attempt to decrease back pain caused by muscle spasm, muscle tension, and joint dysfunction.

Reiki Massage: An energy healing technique in which a Reiki trained therapist uses gentle hand movements with the intention to guide the flow of healthy energy through the client's body to reduce stress and promote healing.

To provide an even more relaxed and therapeutic experience, we utilize fragrant massage oils, such as rosemary, peppermint, lavender, and more. We also compound cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabinol (CBN) massage oils to reduce inflammation and soothe muscles. After you're done, you can go right back to your regular activities; however, we may recommend drinking plenty of water to help your body expel any trapped toxins that may have been released.

I love this salon! You have to see Shannah for a facial while you're there. You can tell she's passionate about her work and she is so kind. My skin glows every time I leave! Lisa is also amazing at massage. I would recommend them to anyone.

I just went to go see Lisa for a massage here at a recommendation by a friend. She was INCREDIBLE. I am not new to massages, and this was one of the best I've had in my life! My friend told me Lisa uses very firm pressure, which I generally prefer, but knowing that I told her to start between light and medium pressure, and it was absolutely perfect. The way she applied pressure it was never too focused that I became uncomfortable. It allowed me to relax just enough to experience the benefits of the massage, but not feel the need to resist or squirm, even in my most ticklish areas. Still, she was able to get into the detail of each muscle, while maintaining slow movement across the body. The music was beautiful, she used heated towels throughout, the experience was almost spiritual. And at the end she gave me a huge water bottle and some feedback on what she felt from my body. Highly recommend her!

I've been coming here for a few years for my haircuts. Heidi has always been so wonderful and treats me super well. She recently had her sweet baby and unfortunately our schedules don't line up anymore so I started seeing Alicia for my hair. She's so easy to talk to and incredibly knowledgeable. I would honestly recommend both ladies for hair, I've loved my experience with them. Zodiac does so much more than just hair, too. Me and my thin, light 90s brows had been dying to get microblading done for years but I've been SO scared of it because of all the horror stories online. I mentioned it to Heidi once during a haircut and she highly recommended Andy. It took me about two years after that to finally work up the courage to make an appointment. Oh my goodness I should have done it sooner! He was super sweet and patient with me, so knowledgeable and my brows look AMAZING. My confidence has sky rocketed. I no longer have a lingering worry about my brow pencil wiping off. I have strawberry blonde hair so I'm familiar with the difficulty than can come with color matching that (I went through a million color options for brow pencils before I settled on the one that sucked the least). Andy gave me a lot of options and ended up doing such an amazing job matching my natural hair color. He really took his time to make sure the shape is right and that I'm happy with everything. Also, he has an incredibly relaxing ASMR voice so be prepared for the possibility of a bonus brain massage! :)

If you go for a massage, request Audrey Jones! She gives the best massages. She listens to you and even works places that need extra attention. I have a shoulder injury and she knew exactly how to handle it without me hurting.

Summer is super chill and talented. She understood exactly what kind of haircut I wanted and executed it flawlessly. Also, the head massage she gave me was heavenly. She made me feel so comfortable and ensured that I was happy with my haircut. I saw Shannah for a full face wax and lash lift. She instantly made me feel calm with her dulcet voice and gave me the best face waxing experience I’ve ever had. The lash lift also came out looking great. I received a complimentary marshmallow lip treatment as well which felt amazing. She is extremely talented and very knowledgeable about skincare. Just a wonderful person in every way. I also met Jorji for a structured gel manicure and pedicure which was out of this world! Easily one of the best I have ever had. She was meticulous about the details and really took her time to make sure I was happy. I felt so relaxed throughout the pedicure as well. She is so skilled and just a genuinely awesome human being. I love my new nails so much! Overall, the ambience here is really warm and soothing. All the ladies are lovely and really knowledgeable about their craft. I felt so relaxed and happy after every appointment. I truly had a great time here and look forward to going back again soon! 🙂💕

About Us
Are massages painful?

Our caring team is committed to making your massage as comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable as possible. For patients who choose a massage that incorporates techniques to address the deeper tissues, they may experience more intense sensations, but most do not describe the experience as painful. Of course, if you feel that your massage is too intense or becomes uncomfortable at any point, we can adjust our techniques going forward.

How long do massages last?

Because every massage can be customized based on the patient's individual preferences and other factors, the length of some massages may vary. Generally speaking, however, most patients benefit by a one-hour massage session.

How often can I get a professional massage?

The most appropriate frequency of professional massages depends on the patient's preferences, reasons for getting a massage, the type of massage being performed, and others. For general well-being and relaxation, some people choose to have a massage about once a month. However, those patients dealing with specific issues such as chronic pain or stress might benefit from more frequent sessions. Prior to treatment, one of our knowledgeable massage therapists will work closely with you to understand your needs and goals in order to recommend a massage schedule that is right for you.

Can I combine different types of massages during a single session?

Yes, many massage therapists offer the option to combine different techniques within one session. This is especially useful if you have multiple areas of tension or specific therapeutic needs. For instance, you might want a deep tissue massage on your back and a relaxation technique for your neck. Be sure to communicate your preferences with your therapist beforehand so they can tailor the experience to your needs.

Should I avoid eating before a massage?

It's recommended not to have a heavy meal right before your massage, as lying on your stomach or being in certain positions might be uncomfortable on a full stomach. A light snack an hour or two before the appointment is usually fine. Hydrating before and after your session is important as well since massages can stimulate circulation and help flush out toxins from the body.

Are there specific massage techniques for athletes?

Yes, sports massage is tailored to the needs of athletes, focusing on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive movements. It can be used before or after physical activity to enhance performance, prevent injuries, and promote faster recovery. Techniques like deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy are often included to target knots and muscle adhesions. Communication with your therapist is key to ensuring the massage is effective for your athletic needs.
